Bonzi Wells: Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers Not Good Fit

If Game 1 against Boston were any indication, Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers are looking at another early playoff exit. Granted, Philly is without Ben Simmons, but it just seems the Sixers are yet again unable to reach their potential.

What is needed in that organization? A new coach? New players? Something else?

“I think it’s a combination of all that,” former NBA veteran and podcast host Bonzi Wells said on The Zach Gelb Show. “I think it’s time for a new voice. If they don’t get a new voice, they’re going to lose their stars.”

Embiid, the third overall pick in 2014, has spent his entire career in Philadelphia. But Wells, the co-host of Let’s Get Technical with Rasheed Wallace, doesn’t know if Embiid and Philly are a good fit.

“A lot of people are not built to be in Philadelphia,” Wells said. “They’re not built for the grit of Philadelphia. Allen Iverson, built perfect for that. I don’t know if Joel Embiid is all-in [on] the Philly culture. I think he’s the type of guy that wants to come to Miami or L.A. or somewhere where he can just kind of lay in the sun and chill. You can kind of tell.”

The 76ers have lost four of their last five games heading into Game 2 against Boston on Wednesday.

“You can tell everybody has checked out,” Wells said. “It’s going to be tough moving forward for Philly to keep their stars there if they don’t make some changes.”
