Conor McGregor has confirmed on Twitter he has accepted Dana White’s terms of a rematch with Dustin Poirier to mark his UFC return on January 23.

However, the Irishman made some demands of his own and wants the fight to take place in Texas at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

McGregor was desperate to fight before the end of the year after seeing his 2020 ‘season’ disrupted by the outbreak of COVID-19.

UFC President White confirmed he had made a ‘take it or leave it’ offer to ‘The Notorious’ to face Poirier at the start of next year.

“We offered him a fight, we got him his own date,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “We didn’t have a date this year.

“We have everything laid out for this year, with world champions fighting for titles.

“He wants to fight Dustin Poirier apparently, so we went to [broadcast partner] ESPN and got him his own date. He’s been offered Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23. It’s a yes or no answer.”

McGregor first fought ‘The Diamond’ as a featherweight in 2014 and knocked him out in one round as he had predicted in the build-up.

Since then, Poirier has rebuilt himself as a lightweight and is recognised as one of the very best in the world at 155lbs.

And 32-year-old former world champion McGregor appears to have said ‘yes’ to White’s demands and will return to the octagon in January.

He said: “I accept, Jan 23rd is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd.

“I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny [Pacquiao].”

McGregor has also outlined his plans to return to boxing and face the future Hall of Famer from the Philippines in a lucrative bout now they are both represented by Paradigm Sports.
