The Los Angeles Chargers (4-9) have had a rough season. While they beat the Atlanta Falcons on a last-second field goal in Week 14, they’ve lost a lot of close games. In fact, seven of their nine losses have been by one possession, including two in overtime.

Many Chargers fans blame head coach Anthony Lynn for so many late-game letdowns and want him fired. They also don’t want him to potentially ruin rookie quarterback Justin Herbert.

But those are the fans. Chargers players, including All-Pro cornerback and Super Bowl champion Chris Harris Jr., still think very highly of their head coach.

“I love him as a coach,” Harris told Tiki & Tierney. “I think anytime you have a coach that is preaching accountability, preaches discipline – he’s a guy, you can go right up there and talk to him if you have an issue. He’s let us . . . talk to him [about] what we need to do to make some changes, try to win. So as a head coach, he’s everything I’ve wanted in a head coach compared to [Gary] Kubiak and things like that, Coach [John] Fox similar ways like that.

“We just haven’t been able to finish the games and close the games,” Harris continued. “That’s on us and the coaches. As a whole, everybody hasn’t been able to reach those expectations of this season. But we had a lot of injuries this year that made it hard for us. Coach, he’s shown that he can win in this league. It’ll be interesting to see what they do.”

Lynn, 51, is 30-31 with the Chargers and 1-1 in the postseason. The organization said it plans to retain Lynn through the end of the season

Tiki & Tierney asked Harris if Chargers players would be upset if Lynn were fired.

“I think everybody in the league, everybody on our team, understands the business, understands the situation,” Harris said. “We know that we had high expectations to win this year and coach had high expectations on him to succeed. It’s really up to the top. I think guys, we kind of understand the business and we understand that some players might lose jobs also with the coach, so it goes both ways. I think mostly guys are more thinking about their own spot, their own lives, more than the coach when you’re around this time of the season.”

The Chargers play the Raiders (7-6) in Las Vegas on Thursday. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. ET.
