Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles tanked Sunday night, benching Jalen Hurts for Nate Sudfeld during the fourth quarter of a 20-14 loss to the Washington Football Team (7-9).

While the Eagles (4-11-1) improved their draft stock with the loss, many analysts believe they hurt the integrity of the league by blatantly tanking.

JR SportBrief disagrees.

“Did Doug Pederson disrespect the game? Did he do a disservice to some of his players? Did he potentially do a disservice to himself if the team doesn’t win next year? Yes, absolutely,” JR said on CBS Sports Radio. “But saying that the integrity was stripped from the game – look at how the league operates. It operates strictly to make money, to pay players and chew them up and spit them out and you get a check and you get a check and we all go home happy.”

The Eagles could move on from Carson Wentz this offseason. They could move forward with Hurts as their starter, or they could look to add a quarterback through the draft or free agency.

But one thing they knew for sure? A Week 17 loss would improve their draft stock – and it did. The Eagles will pick No. 6 in the 2021 NFL Draft.

“This is a game,” JR said. “We’re not trying to go pick roses and be sweet and hug and kiss. If you don’t like it, this is a game where you can go out there and kick the opponent’s ass. If the Eagles want to just kind of roll around in their own squalor, if they want to be a trash organization that sets up a losing culture, that’s their business. But I don’t think this was damaging to the entire NFL. And in that regard, I think there’s a lot of folks who are just sitting on a high horse right now.”
