Only eight NFL running backs have rushed for over 2,000 yards in a single season, and Derrick Henry is one of them. He rushed for 2,027 yards this season – the fifth-most all time. 

And when he passed that milestone, the other members of 2,000-yard club reached out to congratulate him, including Eric Dickerson, Adrian Peterson, Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, and Chris Johnson.

Even O.J. Simpson gave Henry props.

“He didn’t reach out to me personally, but I [saw] he put something on Twitter, a video congratulating me,” Henry said of Simpson on Tiki & Tierney. “It was so cool because he was saying I was going to break 2,000 yards before the season even started, which I appreciated.”

Henry has led the league in rushing yards – and carries – two years in a row. In 2019, he rushed 303 times for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns. In 2020, he rushed 378 times for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Despite the heavy workload, Henry says his body feels fresh.

“I feel good,” he said. “After we lost against the Ravens, I was pissed. That’s just how I always am. I’m my worst critic. I feel like I could have played better to help us win. Probably like a day or two after that, I went back to working out and been working out ever since getting ready for next year. My body feels good. I know 378 carries is a lot – and then last year and then the playoff run – but my body feels good, I’m ready to go, and I continue training just so I can be ready for next season.”
