JR SportBrief: Anthony Davis, NBA players have more power

Anthony Davis has had a pretty good last year-and-a-half. He went from playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, where he reached the playoffs just twice, to getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, winning an NBA title with LeBron James, and signing a five-year, $190 million contract to stay with the purple and gold.

JR SportBrief is a-okay with it. All of it.

“Someone like Anthony Davis, he can force his hand out of New Orleans – and he did,” JR said on CBS Sports Radio. “We saw Brandon Ingram get sent out. We saw Lonzo Ball, we saw Josh Hart, we saw the picks – we saw that take place. He forced his way to Los Angeles. Not a bad pace to live, okay? And we see more players saying, ‘I want out.’ John Wall wanted out, and he hasn’t played in two years. But there’s no problem.

“Because you know what this looks like for this younger generation that [is] coming up that are basketball fans that love the game?” JR continued. “This is no different than what you play on [NBA 2K]. Except for this is real. The players are making millions and millions of dollars. A lot of these players, someone like LeBron James, at least on the court, he’s not making the money that he’s worth basketball-wise. That split might have to be a little bit bigger. So the game is changing. The players have more power.”

The players have seemingly had more power ever since The Decision, ever since LeBron James decided to take his talents to South Beach.

“I know some folks don’t like the players calling their shots, [but] for a long time the players had no voice,” JR said. “The players were basically stuck to whatever team had and owned their rights. I’m not mad at anybody that has an opportunity to pick and choose where they can make their money – and that’s across all sports, and that’s in any walk of life.”
